The BBC invited me to record a session with a musician of my choice. I asked if a dead person would be acceptable. They responded positively. Derek and I had always wanted to record together but for various reasons, in particular Derek’s ill health, we never did. I asked Derek’s partner, Karen, for permission to listen through some of his unreleased material. I chose a set and played along, with and against it in the studio.
