Music for Piano and Dust, for Harry Gilonis
24” Performed by John Tilbury, piano and Klaus Filip, dust sounds. The dust was recorded in Switzerland in 2018 by Klaus Filip, the Piano in Deal by Konrad Pidduck, who was also responsible for the final mix in 2019.
Klaus and I have known each other for a long time, though not well. Occasionally, usually at musical venues, we meet and acknowledge each other’s presence with pleasure. In Bern in 2018, when I was recording the Tiger’s Mind in the Munster, Klaus happened to be involved and we took the opportunity, Klaus, my wife Janice and I, one afternoon, to spend some leisure time together in a café near the Minster. Janice and I recall what a pleasurable occasion that was. Among many other things, Klaus told us of his recordings of dust, at which word Janice pricked up her ears. She had a book entitled The Secret Life of Dust, a copy of which on our return to Deal she sent to Klaus. I asked him if he would have any objections to my adding a piano accompaniment to his dust sounds. He said he would not and furthermore added he thought it was a good idea.
